A fellow GJ member suggested that I post my barn project here. I've been following Dave’s barn build on the GJ for some time. I didn't know if I should post my project in the new or existing barn section. My barn is not old by any means as I started to build it about 5 years ago. So I guess it belongs in the new section. The barn is in some ways similar to Angus’s barn as it is a true pole barn (telephone pole construction). I have very limited early construction photos but I’ll try to post some to show it’s evolution to present day as we go.
I'm still trying to figure the photo thing out so this is a bit of a test. Bear with me. Mike

Happy to have you with us. Northern or southern NH ? Just curious, know the area well. Pictures are great as attachments, better from a free photo service. If you need any advice on posting pics or anything else, just ask as a post, or PM us, or any of the other members. Everyone loves to help.

Dave, Thanks for the welcome. South Western NH on the Vermont border halfway between Keene and Lebanon (Charlestown, NH) I'll try some photos through photobucket and see how that works.

This works better through photobucket. I will post more picks later now that have a good way to re-size files under to be under 1MG and attach. After attaching the hemlock boards. These were left overs from a previous project. Sorry picture taken in the rain.

I found a few more pics of the barn. There is one door on back for added accessibility. Front view with some of it's current residents. This is why I need to finish the barn a bit more. I'd like to pore a concrete floor and build some doors this summer. There is always lots to do and not much time. Mike

Good to see ya here buiboy, Wow what a great barn. Did you do all the work yourself? Hemlock looks wonderful. Do you plan on letting it weather to natural dark gray? Wish mine had natural siding. Once there painted, they ALWAYS need paint... LOL. Floor, and Doors, ain't it always the truth! Always needing something done to both. But can see why you want to keep the "herd's" feet dry! Is that a Huckster poking out the middle bay?? And what's that hiding behind it?? Was that a "Triumph" hiding in that first picture? Lucky Man! Nice place, thanks for letting us take a look. John

Tarnished, Thanks for the kind words! I put the barn up with my father and a few friends. The hemlock has weathered well but my wife doesn't like the natural look. At this point I don't know what I'm going to do. I want to add battens but I'm out of hemlock. Maybe pine battens will do. Yes, if it was just the tractor and some implements it would stay as is but the better breeding stock of the "herd" needs to stay dry...LOL The "herd" consist of: 1955 International, 1929 Huckster, 1923 T-Bucket, and no the hiding car in the first picture is a 1979 MGB. That's my wife's pride and joy. I have that in my shop stripped to bare bones right now. That's one of this years restoration projects. The herd is getting too big so that's why the barn must be upgraded. It should be lots of fun.

Started to remove the undesirable material. Notice the cobbles. Found several stones the size of a microwave and one almost the size of the kitchen range. Took out approximately 24" of material. The goal is to put 12" of gravel back on edges and 18" in the middle. This would have been much easier to prep and pour the concrete before I attached the walls to the poles. I guess if it was easy, everyone would do it this way. More to come, Mike

Put down road fabric to help keep new material from mingling with indigenous soil. Fabric comes on a 12' 6" wide roll. Used 100 linear feet. Model A and compactor used to keep fabric from blowing away while I order gravel.

Project is moving along slowly. Lots of rain lately. Many piles of gravel arrived. The supervisor, (Dubh) inspected every pile with a simple test of "king of the hill". Piles of material coming out and piles of material going in. I logged many hours of tractor time. Yard work suffered.

Poked my head in the site to see what's going on and realized I haven posted any updates in over a year. Shame on me. I'll get some photos together and bring this thread up to date. Much has changed.
