This picture shows gaps between some of the boards. My grandfathers barn had 3/4" gaps between every board. It admits light in otherwise dark areas and does not allow enough rain in to matter. This barn has been neglected for a long time but the fresh wood at the bottom suggests that it is being repaired. The front wall is board and batten. The back wall shows gaps between boards.  27barns by farmgate, on Flickr |
