This is a barn i built last year for a neighbor. Everything was salvaged telephone poles. We also put in a 2" ash floor to store round bales in the loft. Eastern red cedar siding for the shop addition.

Happy to have you on board with us. Would love to see more pictures of both the barn in your post and the one that is your avatar. Interior pics if you have them. Would think our viewers would like to see and know more about the use of the telephone poles. Also if you have any input on the forum itself, let us know. Post it or leave it on the Shoutout at the botton of every page. Thanks Dave

Angus: Welcome. Wow! Great Barn! Was this new construction? We need more pics. Did you mill the poles yourself? I had a neighbor did this same thing from salvaged Power poles. Got them free for the haul away. Had his own mill, cut his own siding and resided his old barn. Looks Great! Is this the same pic as your avatar? Is this something you do professionally? What area are you in? Hope to see more soon. John

Did you keep a count of how many telephone poles were used?

I believe we used 147 for floorjoists and 72 for posts. we figured we saved about 20k in material.

Angus: so you used the poles for the bent posts and corner posts then. Can't tell from pics, but did you put them in the ground, or sit them on concrete pads? Nice save on lumber. Those beams would have been $$$$ I was thinking that you cut the poles for siding, which is what my neighbor did. Nice job! John

Wow that is amazing! How long did it take to build? How are the horizontal poles attached to the I beams? I spent time collecting poles for mine but had a hard time getting them full length. The power company almost all ways put in new poles first and then cut the old ones off low enough to swing over the existing wires. Anyway your barn is awesome. Thanks for sharing. Mike
