So I recently just posted my barn in the "Present barn" section with some pictures. I decided to start a thread of all the repairs we will have to do on this thing. My goals for this thread is for others input and share information I have. After searching and searching on the web there really isn't another forum strictly for barns that I have found. So I am hoping to stay active on here and hopefully get some more community. Now bare with me. These barns are not a cheap hobby. I am young and don't have a lot of money laying around so I go by the rule of do it cheap...but do it right! So picture 1: Shows the Northe side of the barn (back side). I have cleaned up all the brush, wood, and vines. Currently working on piling all the rocks from the old foundation up and getting rid of the clumps of old mortar. Once I get this complete I want to try and utilize the old columns to take some of the pressure of the interior columns until I get enough funds to start jacking the building up. Picture 2: So all these pictures are from when I bought the place. Everything in this picture has been thrown out or burned. This is showing the northwest corner where the barn is sagging the most. Notice all the columns flaring out and the crumbled rock foundation. Picture 3: This is the west side looking south. This side I have 75% of all the siding gone on the bottom. The biggest problem in this picture is at the top right corner you can just see where the corner column going up to the roof is slipping out of the joint. This is what I am very concerned about when jacking. Its held on by about 2-3 inches. A barn restoration consultant told me to get some cables and a come-along and try to pull it in without damaging the old mortise joint.
