Hello all, Im in the process of adding on to my barn. The expansion will be 14' X 8'. Im adding this to house two mowers and a 4wheeler. I dont want to have regular doors on it. Because it is about a foot off the ground I would have to make a ramp. Im thinking of building the ramp so I can raise it up to be the front wall and have a winch to raise and lower it. The ramp/door will be 12' wide and 7' tall. Any one have any suggestions on how to do this? I was thinking to make it out of steel then clad it with wood.

Sounds very interesting, do you have any pictures, that you could post ? Of how it looks now? So we can get a better idea as to what you have in mind.

I havent started on it yet. I was trying to work out the bugs before I get started. Basically I want the front of the shop left open like the size of a garage door and since its a foot off the ground, I would have to build a ramp. So I thought I could build a ramp that would close up to be the wall/door. I would use a small ac winch to raise and lower it.

Don't let that stop you. If you have the pictures on the computer you are using, you are half way there. I will try to post another reply with a picture and a description as to how I did it. If you do try and it doesn't come out right, If I can't correct it for you , than I will delete it if you want me to and you can try again. We want you to be able to enjoy and participate. First let us know if you have the pictures already loaded on your computer.

Here is a picture of our barn project. This was created by using the add attachment button on the upper right of the create post page(reply page). If you want to post full pictures they have to be hosted on a third party hosting site. Or your own web site. There are a lot of free photo hosting sites, that you can find on the net. If you are using one of those all you have to do is go to the tool bar on the top of the reply page and add the url to the photo hosting picture. Tip Always do your post first on the reply page using the BBCode tab version found at the bottom left of the page. Than click on the PREVIEW tab to see how it will look when posted. Make your corrections back on the BBC tab and when satisfied, hit the create post button. Also feel I need to add that we have no idea when we make these suggestions , what the reader has for a computer or what version of what he is using. What works on one computer may not on the readers. Like in the case of the picture above. On most computers if you place your mouse on the picture and click on it , the picture will open in full size. But this is not the case on all systems.

Never tried that, but if you can take the picture and put it in a folder on the laptop, so that when the add attachment wizard lets you browse to find it, than it should work.
