This barn was built by my grandpa around 1960 and housed cows and a few mules while the property was still a farm. The barn went out of use sometime in the late 80's or early 90's and was forgotten about until me and my dad started fixing it back up. We plan on finishing what little work is left this winter.

I should be back at the barn in a few days and Ill be sure to get several more picture. Due to snakes I am waiting on some cooler temperatures to get back to work on the barn. We have a lot of snakes here in the south so it pays to not be in or around old buildings during warmer months.

Without asking your actual location, might we ask, which state in the south is the barn. Also what kind of snakes? We have had a few here in AR, while building the barn. Only saw two this year, but had to deal with six last year.

Im in North Mississippi. Around here the snakes have been bad even as it gets colder. Copperheads and water moccasin mostly. I actually found a couple of snake skins in the back of the barn a while back so they have definitely been in there. Within about a mile of where I live there are several really nice barns so hopefully I can take some more pictures of mine and I hope to get some of the others and post. What section can I post pictures of barns that I don't own? Ill be taking a few more of my barn maybe today and Ill post very soon.

Welcome barnman: sorry I missed this post. I'm not sure what to make of your old barn? What is with the steps leading into the barn? Is the floor raised? Would love to see more pictures. Inside as well. Looks like you have NEW siding? Can you tell us more about that?

The steps were added because the previous method of getting in was a stack of blocks which were highly dangerous and had become a place for snakes to live so we built the steps. The floor in the front part is raised and sits about 2 feet off the ground. The siding is the same as when the building was built, nothing has been changed and there are no plans of replacing any of the original parts. The work on the building is still in progress and I really hope to get some more pictures.

I would have replaced the blocks as well. I am not a snake fan! I love the look of your barn though...Less the snakes of course. I look forward to additional pictures if you get an opportunity to take more.
