No experience with them but looks like it would be handy. Ive done some post and beam work with only Hammer, chisels, circular saw and reciprocating saw, but this looks interesting. Did you price it yet? Plymouth, Mass...not too far from me.

OhSam, Cool idea. Looks like it might work for a few cuts, but wouldn't want to count on it to build an entire barn. Pretty rough cut, but could be what you want. How would the chain get oil? Then again, ya could just use a normal chain saw to do the cutting. $200 buy pretty decent chain saw now days.

I agree that a chain saw would be fine for cutting timbers the length but I was thinking more about using this for joinery of timbers. Another downside to this design is that nails in old timbers would be bad. I hadn't thought about oiling the chain.

Buiboy: Wow! Nice work. All morticed and pinned? Beautiful. Not to hijack, but can you show us more or your work please? What is the rotisserie for in the attachment? John

Tarnished, Thank you for the kind words. That was a fun post beam project and actually supports nothing other than it self. I filled three 30 gallon trash cans with saw dust and shavings. If it's OK with ohiosam I will see if I can find some pictures of other projects as it's his post. I'm not good at taking pictures of these things. That's why I had to pull the post & beam image from the attachment...LOL I built this rotisserie for a British car restoration project. It works really well but has nothing to do with barns. Mike
